Antefixes are carved terracotta ornaments that used to terminate the covering tiles of the roof of a tiled roof. They appeared in Greek buildings at the late 1800’s early 1900’s and they were inspired by ancient Greece.
This beautiful antique Greek Antefix is a collective one. It is a typical example of the last decade of the 1800’s. During this period antefixes were decorated with an anthemion and a bearded male portrait. This portrait represents a Greek god, either Hephaestus, Zeus or Dionysus.
It is in good antique condition with traces of time typical of its age.
This charming Greek antefix is a unique piece for your antique/vintage home decoration!
